Patti Pelican and the Gulf Oil Spill introduces families to the Gulf oil spill on April 20, 2010. More often than not there is news coverage of the actual spill, but you don’t always see the animals whose homes have been destroyed. In this book you are introduced to Patti the pelican and Sammy the seagull and their journey to recover from the affects of oil on them. You get a glimpse into just how much work recuse workers and volunteers have to help the wildlife within the spill zone. With such amazing characters the book helps you teach your little ones how bad oil spills are in terms they will understand.
My girls really enjoyed learning about how the birds are taken care of after being saved from the spill zone. They really seemed interested in seeing if Patti and Sammy were saved and able to return home. They were very excited to learn that Patti and Sammy recovered from the spill and were able to be released and reunited with their friends Captain Charley and Salty.
Part of the sales from the book will be donated to IBRRC for quick response to disasters no matter where they happen. You can also make a personal donation online or by mail to:
